Why should you listen to me?

Listen, I understand what it’s like. I grew up as a chubby kid who used food as an emotional crutch. When I couldn’t solve a stomach-wrenching emotional situation, food gave me refuge.

It was NOT a good plan! But I admit it; that’s what I did. AND I needed to find a way out of that destructive pattern.

For years, I was obsessed with how change my behavior to lose those painful pounds. I tried lots of solutions and made lots of mistakes (including distorted eating patterns like binging and purging) on the way to finding what works.

And now?

I’m in my late 50s and am still lean and fit. I have made it my life’s work to understand the psychology and practices of what creates true health, and help others find it for themselves.

Back then I lost weight, but in a very unhealthy way. I counted every calorie and exercised every day, but I knew there had to be more to it. Science nerd that I am, I got a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training to learn how to create strong, resilient bodies.

Along the way I’ve had more fitness, nutrition and wellness coaching certifications that I can remember! I’ve now narrowed my focus to my Nutrition Coach certification with Precision Nutrition, the most recognized and respected nutrition certification in the fitness industry. A little more about me…

As a midlife woman, I refuse to believe living longer means your health must take a nosedive. I am frustrated by the fact that so many women seem to give up after some arbitrary age and think they have very little choice in their aging trajectory.

I hear things like, “It’s genetic, my parents had diabetes so I can’t do much about it.”

I say that’s a bunch of hogwash!

I refuse to give in to my genetic predispositions, because that’s exactly what they are: predispositions, not tea leaves or death sentences.

Both my mom and her mother before her succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease, but I’m doing my research and putting up a fight to not follow in their shoes.
